My
name is Bruce Brigham. My love of photography and history has formed a unique
match, and has developed from
an interest into a passion. What started as a snapshot of an"interesting
old place" has become an extensive project. In the face of progress and
development, and limited by the finality of time, the original pioneer and
early settlers homes and farms that once dotted our Central Ontario countryside
are slowly vanishing. Abandoned years ago, these homesteads have been left
to the mercy of the elements. All are in various states of decay. I find
these subjects to be both interesting, inspiring, and challenging to photograph.
One can not visit these sites without an overwhelming sense of wonder. The
people that once called these places home have either left or have passed
on. It's a glimpse of history lost. These homes allow us to reflect upon
our own existence, and mirror the differences in everyday life between a
century of souls. I shoot mainly in 35mm black and white using a variety
of equipment. This project is both extensive and ongoing, and will be regularly
updated with more properties. In short, I hope that you have enjoyed your
virtual tour, and that you take time to remember those early settlers in
our area who laid the groundwork for life as we know it today.
